Message from Mrs. Sekelsky

May 2017

Dear Parents,

We are so proud of our students’ wonderful efforts last month during the ELA exam!  The Grades 3-5 Math State assessments are scheduled for May 2 through and including May 4, 2017.  Our ENL students will be taking the NYSESLAT exam this month.  Our Grade 4 students will take the Grade 4 Elementary Science Program Evaluation Test later this month (manipulative portion) and in early June (objective portion) as well.  Please be aware that this exam is a program evaluation exam to assess our progress in science.

We hope to see all of you at our upcoming Spring Concerts – Grade 5 Spring Concert – May 11, 7:00 p.m.; Grade 4 Spring Concert – May 18, 7:00 p.m.; Grade 3 Spring Concert – June 6, 9:45 a.m.

During car pick-up on Comp Lane, please be aware that residents may need to get in and out of their driveways.  Your cooperation is appreciated.

REMEMBER TO VOTE ON MAY 16th!  THE SCHOOL BUDGET AND SCHOOL BOARD ELECTION IS SCHEDULED ON THAT DATE.

May 8–12th is National Teacher Appreciation Week.  It is a great time for your child to write a letter to a teacher who has made a difference in his/her life.  Encourage your child to think about specific things the teacher has done.  Did the teacher take some extra time during lunch to help him/her with a math problem?  Did the teacher explain science in a way that made it come alive?  Or, did the teacher remember to ask about a sick pet?  These details will make your child’s letter more personal.  It will also ensure it is something his/her teacher will always treasure.

Regular Meetings of the Board of Education
The Glen Cove Board of Education has already begun their public discussions of the school district budget for the 2017-2018 school year.  You are invited to become informed by attending their upcoming meetings as follows:

- May 8, 2017 – Board of Education Meeting & Budget Public Hearing – High School -  7:30 p.m.
- May 16, 2017 - SCHOOL BUDGET & TRUSTEE VOTE!
- May 22, 2017 – Board of Education Meeting – Middle School – 7:30 p.m.

Dress Code
Now that it is springtime, we would like to remind you that spaghetti straps, bare midriff shirts, skin tight clothing, or any suggestive clothing is not allowed to be worn at Connolly School.  If any inappropriate clothing is worn, your child will be asked to call home for a change of clothing.  Additionally, flip flops or sandals without straps are also not allowed for safety purposes. Thank you for your understanding.

Summary
Remind your youngsters of the importance of continuing to do their best in class and on homework assignments, as we approach the end of the school year and help prepare students to transition to the next grade.

Spring is truly in full bloom – do enjoy the glorious days of May!

REMEMBER TO VOTE ON MAY 16th

Cordially yours,
