Message from Mrs. Sekelsky

June 2017

Dear Parents,

A reminder that the Grade 4 state science assessment (objective portion) is scheduled for Monday, June 5.  Additionally, our 5th grade students were selected to participate in an ELA computer state field test.  This test will not be used to evaluate students, but will be used to help the New York State Education Department evaluate and select questions for possible inclusion in future state exams.

We look forward to seeing you at our Grade 3 Spring Concert, scheduled for Tuesday, June 6 at 9:45 a.m.

Congratulations to our newly elected Board of Education trustees, Robert Field and Monica Alexandris-Miller.

Great News, the school budget passed!!

Congratulations to Grade 5 teacher, Krystle Gonzalez, on her recent attainment of tenure.

I would also like to extend a very special thank you to this year’s PTA Co-Presidents Michelle Juarez and Maria Simmons, as well as the entire PTA Executive Board and everyone who worked so hard in our PTA.  We could not have had such a successful year without all your support!  Congratulations to  Karyme Demosthene and Deneen Jackson, next year’s PTA Co-Presidents, and the new executive board for the 2017-18 school year.

Grade 5 Families –We are limiting admission to two (2) family members per child for our Moving Up Day Ceremony. We appreciate your understanding and look forward to seeing you at our Moving Up Day Ceremony on Wednesday, June 21st at 9:15 a.m. in our Connolly Gym!

You can feel assured that your youngsters have received excellent academic instruction as well as opportunities for social growth during the 2016-17 school year.  As our school’s mission statement says, we are committed to these two goals and appreciate all parents’ support in these important endeavors.  I encourage all of you to remain involved in your child’s education as he/she moves on to the next grade.  We must always strive to be partners in education for the benefit of all our youngsters.  With this in mind, please encourage your children to read for pleasure over the summer.  Suggested reading lists, by level, are also posted on our school’s website.

Please continue to stress the importance of your children arriving to school on time and completing all class and homework assignments. June is a very important month, and the children must realize that the educational process continues through our

last day of school, June 23.

The next Board of Education meetings for June will take place on Monday, June 5 and on Monday, June 19, at 7:30 p.m. at the Middle School.

As the school year draws to a close, and as I, like our students “move on” to a new adventure, retirement, I want to take a moment to let all of the wonderful Connolly families know that it has been my honor and privilege working with all of you over the past 24 years!  My heartfelt best wishes for continued success go out to all of you!

Cordially yours,

Rosemarie Sekelsky
